Kitchen FAQs

What are our most heard kitchen FAQs? Here’s a few.

What is the average cost of a new fitted kitchen?

Great kitchen design is a blend or art and science, and is not just about where cabinets, appliances and plumbing best fit, or can be squeezed in or suits the designer. We are experienced kitchen designers and not just room planners or surveyors as many of our ‘big box’ competitors are, and our approach goes far beyond the conventional methods employed by many of them.

The design process usually takes a few weeks, and installation varies from a week to several weeks depending upon the amount of work required. We’ll provide a rough idea early on and a clear schedule once the job’s confirmed. Once all the decisions we need from you have been made, the usual lead time is 5 to 8 weeks and we arrange installations to suit a client’s schedules. Product coming from abroad -such as Germany or Ireland – may take a little longer.

Absolutely! Customisation is at the heart of our design process, and we offer a wide range of options to suit your home’s style and your tastes.

We offer a free, no obligation design service using the latest Computer Aided Design software with unlimited free changes to the scheme. You may like to read our page about our approach to kitchen design.

We do not expect any of our customers to ever require the security blanket of a guarantee such is our confidence in what we build and install but we want you to be completely reassured. In addition to your consumer rights, we offer a five year guarantee that your kitchen will remain structurally sound and it covers any defects. The terms of our guarantee is here.
For your added confidence, we’re also Cambridgeshire’s only Trading Standards Approved kitchen designers and installers. This is a partnership of Local Authority Trading Standards Services which provides consumers with a list of businesses which have given their commitment to trading fairly. Every business listed has undergone a series of rigorous checks by professionally qualified Trading Standards staff before being approved.
We do. Our skilled tradespeople, including plumbers, plasterers, builders and electricians to name a few, are fully licensed and insured and are managed by us to handle all necessary work following the highest industry standards and local regulations.
We do work with existing appliances. Knowing up front allows us to ensure they fit within the new design and new ones don’t need to be considered or budgeted for.
If required, we will dismantle and dispose of your old kitchen, except for those items we’re not allowed to such as fridges, which have to be collected by the local council. A skip is usually provided and we then ensure its contents are recycled in the most environmentally friendly way to minimise the amount going to landfill. There’s more information found here.

Any impact on timeline or cost will be clearly outlined during our design and quoting discussions before you agree to any work being undertaken.

Not every project runs smoothly for myriad reasons and despite the extensive planning we put in place. Transparent and open communication with our clients is a core principle at Nicholas Hythe. Our team provide regular proactive updates, address any concerns, and manage expectations effectively. Our project management process is detailed here.

It’s crucial to prioritse the importance of safety and ergonomics in the kitchen design process so that you’re functionally going to be able to use your kitchen without injuring yourself. For more information please read this article.
