Kitchen FAQs

What are our most heard kitchen FAQs? Here's a few

What is the average cost of a new fitted kitchen?

The cost of our fitted kitchens varies depending on size, materials, and design. We work with each client to create a tailored solution that fits their budget. Factors include the size of the kitchen, the choice of doors, worktops, any appliances, whether additional plumbing, electrics, plastering or other work is required. Some customers give us a ballpark budget to which we work; others provide their ‘wish list’ and then tweak to their budget but we can usually give customers an idea of cost depending on the size and complexity of the project at a pretty early stage.

How long does it typically take to design and install a fitted kitchen?

The design process usually takes a few weeks, and installation varies from a week to several weeks depending upon the amount of work required. We’ll provide a rough idea early on and a clear schedule once the job’s confirmed. Once all the decisions we need from you have been made, the usual lead time is 5 to 8 weeks and we arrange installations to suit a client’s schedules.  Product coming from abroad -such as Germany or Ireland – may take a little longer

Can I customise the design to match my home's existing aesthetics?

Absolutely! Customisation is at the heart of our design process, and we offer a wide range of options to suit your home’s style and your tastes.

Do you provide in-home consultations for measurements and design recommendations and Is there a charge for the design service?

We offer a free, no obligation design service using the latest Computer Aided Design software with unlimited free changes to the scheme. You may like to read our page about our approach to kitchen design

What guarantees do you provide?

We do not expect any of our customers to ever require the security blanket of a guarantee such is our confidence in what we build and install but we want you to be completely reassured. In addition to your consumer rights, we offer a five year guarantee that your kitchen will remain structurally sound and it covers any defects. The terms of our guarantee is here.

For your added confidence, we’re also Cambridgeshire’s only Trading Standards Approved kitchen designers and installers.  This is a partnership of Local Authority Trading Standards Services which provides consumers with a list of businesses which have given their commitment to trading fairly. Every business listed has undergone a series of rigorous checks by professionally qualified Trading Standards staff before being approved.

Do you handle plumbing and electrical needs during installation?

We do. Our skilled tradespeople, including plumbers, plasterers, builders and electricians to name a few, are fully licensed and insured and are managed by us to handle all necessary work following the highest industry standards and local regulations.

Can you work with my existing appliances, or do I need to purchase new ones?

We do work with existing appliances. Knowing up front allows us to ensure they fit within the new design and new ones don’t need to be considered or budgeted for.

Will you dispose of my old kitchen materials, and how will the removal affect the overall timeline and cost?

If required, we will dismantle and dispose of your old kitchen, except for those items we’re not allowed to such as fridges, which have to be collected by the local council.  A skip is usually provided and we then ensure its contents are recycled in the most environmentally friendly way to minimise the amount going to landfill. There’s more information found here.

Any impact on timeline or cost will be clearly outlined during our design and quoting discussions before you agree to any work being undertaken

What is the process for handling any unforeseen issues or delays during the installation?

Not every project runs smoothly for myriad reasons and despite the extensive planning we put in place. Transparent and open communication with our clients is a core principle at Nicholas Hythe. Our team provide regular proactive updates, address any concerns, and manage expectations effectively. Our project management process is detailed here
